The problem

ChatGPT shows products. A copied Google feed isn’t enough.

OpenAI has its own feed specification: nine required fields, seller and availability in every row, variants as a group. Access to shopping in ChatGPT goes through an application, and approval is up to OpenAI. For ChatGPT Ads, Ads Manager already accepts the feed today, from Germany too.

  1. The Google feed doesn’t get through.

OpenAI requires its own field names and values: a seller name in every row, availability as “in stock” or “out of stock”, every variant as its own row. OpenAI only accepts Google’s format if it has confirmed that for your feed beforehand.

  2. Rows drop out silently.

If availability is missing or a price format is wrong, OpenAI rejects the row, and the rest keeps running. If you don’t read the upload history, you only notice once products are missing.

  3. Outdated after two weeks.

OpenAI wants the whole catalog at least daily, and whatever isn’t delivered for two weeks expires. A price that drops in your store has to reach the feed, or ChatGPT shows the old one.

  4. Two paths, one data foundation.

According to OpenAI, shopping with merchant feeds is so far running in the US, and the application ends on a waitlist. ChatGPT Ads take the same feed today. If you wait until OpenAI opens up, that’s when you’ll just be getting started.

The feed takes that off your hands: built once to OpenAI’s rules, then it runs from your store.

What can your feed do today, and what’s missing? We’ll take a look in the audit.

Our approach

Automate first. Then optimize.

Many agencies maintain feeds as a file: export, fix things in the spreadsheet, upload, and start over at the next error. We build the feed once from your store, with rules for the whole catalog. Whatever we improve after that applies to every product.

Comparison: file by file or one feed from your store

How it works

Maintain it once in your store. In ChatGPT, to OpenAI’s rules.

Your store stays the single data source. The feed translates it into OpenAI’s specification, for shopping and for ChatGPT Ads, and keeps prices and availability up to date.

  1. You manage your store.

Products, prices and inventory as before, in Shopify, WooCommerce or your PIM.

  2. We build the ChatGPT feed.

Nine required fields, every variant as its own row in its group, GTIN, returns and seller to OpenAI’s specification, plus the field that enables ads. Everything in your Channable account, which belongs to you.

  3. The feed updates itself.

Prices and availability flow from your store into the feed. OpenAI gets the whole catalog at least daily, as OpenAI intends, and sold out means sold out in the feed.

One product. In ChatGPT, every size its own row.

In your store
“Trail running shoe”
In the ChatGPT feed, Size 42
“Trail-Laufschuh Herren, Grau, Größe 42”
In the ChatGPT feed, Size 43
“Trail-Laufschuh Herren, Grau, Größe 43”
In the ChatGPT feed, Size 44
“Trail-Laufschuh Herren, Grau, Größe 44”
  • Required fields complete
  • Category assigned
  • Each variant one row, linked as a group
  • Price and availability from your store
  • Already applied to OpenAI?

Then we build the feed to the standard OpenAI requires, and you have it ready as soon as approval comes. The application stays in your name.

  • Want to use the feed for ChatGPT Ads?

The same feed, with the field that enables ads, runs in Ads Manager as the basis for feed campaigns. You or your agency run the campaigns.

  • The Channable account is yours.

You get a handover and documentation and can step in yourself at any time.

FAQ about the ChatGPT feed

Your question isn’t here? Ask it in the audit, that’s what it’s for.

What does the ChatGPT feed cost?

You pay for the feed once, at a fixed price. The next feed builds on it, because data and rules are already in place. No hourly rates, no revenue share. We tell you the price in the first call, not after three.

How fast will the feed be live?

Within 7 business days. The clock starts as soon as we have access to your Channable account, the data source is connected and you’ve selected the products. With ChatGPT, live means: the feed is done and the application to OpenAI is submitted. When you’re approved for shopping is up to OpenAI. You can use the feed for ChatGPT Ads right away.

Is shopping in ChatGPT already live in Germany?

On the user side, ChatGPT shows products in Germany too, from data it gets itself from store pages and providers. According to OpenAI, the program for merchant feeds so far runs for users in the US, with more regions to follow; merchants from Germany can apply and are then put on the waitlist. Purchases happen in your store; OpenAI has put its own checkout in ChatGPT on hold.

What about ChatGPT Ads, and do we need a separate feed for them?

ChatGPT Ads run in Germany too, and Ads Manager accepts product feeds: the feed turns into ads with title, image and price, without building each ad individually. The feed follows the same specification as the shopping feed, with one field that enables ads; we set it. You or your agency handle the upload in Ads Manager and the campaigns there; we create the feed. Which products ChatGPT shows in answers is up to OpenAI; nobody can guarantee a placement, including us.

How does the application to OpenAI work, and who owns the account?

You do. We submit the application through OpenAI’s form in your name, with your contact address; we’re named as the technical partner, and only product data goes to OpenAI. If you sell through Shopify, your catalog is already connected according to OpenAI, but the feed still gives you control over the data. Product ranges that OpenAI excludes, such as alcohol, nicotine or weapons, don’t go into the feed.

Which fields does OpenAI require?

Nine required fields per row: a stable item number, title, description, link to the product page, brand, seller name, image, availability and price with currency. Every variant is its own row, linked to the others through a group ID. On top of that, we add what supports relevance: GTIN, category, returns, shipping costs and, where available, reviews.

Isn’t our Google Shopping feed enough?

As a data foundation, yes; as a submission, not as is. OpenAI has its own field names and its own availability values and requires the seller in every row; OpenAI only accepts Google’s format if it has confirmed that for your feed beforehand. If your Google feed already runs in Channable, we build the ChatGPT feed on the same data and rules. If it runs in another tool, we move the data source to Channable.

How often does the feed update, and what happens with rejections?

OpenAI wants the whole catalog at least daily, and prices and availability come from your store. Whatever isn’t delivered for two weeks expires at OpenAI. If OpenAI rejects rows, the upload history shows which field is missing or formatted incorrectly; we fix the cause in the rules, not row by row. If the platform changes its rules later, we adapt the feed on request.

Does this also work for Austria and Switzerland?

OpenAI sets which countries a feed serves during setup; a standard feed currently targets the US, and OpenAI confirms other markets per feed. For ChatGPT Ads, you specify the countries when you create the feed. Every additional country builds on your feed, with data and rules already in place. What works for you today, we work out in the audit.

Do we need Channable?

Yes, Channable is the engine of the feed. If you don’t have an account yet, you create one and invite us. You pay the license directly to Channable, and the account belongs to you. If you already use Channable, we build the feed in your account.

Does this only work with Shopify?

No. Your store or PIM stays the data source, whether Shopify, WooCommerce or another system with clean data; Channable turns it into the feed to OpenAI’s specification. According to OpenAI, Shopify catalogs are already connected, but your own feed is still the way to keep titles, variants and availability in your own hands.

Do you also run our campaigns?

No. We build the feed, and you or your agency run the campaigns. A clean feed is the foundation for that.
